Sliced Bread Internal/Client Extranet
In 2006 while working at Sliced Bread, I designed and developed an internal extranet for project management, trafficking, organization and client interaction/proofing. With programmer Matt Jones developing all of the backend and function code, I designed a front end design and structure for the extranet.
The purposes of the extranet were:
- be a central repository for all project data for all internal and client projects
- auto-assign ongoing project numbers for filing and ease in identification and archiving
- provide a library of proof files and reference for client-approved files
- provide an online system with automatic notifications to the client when new activity/proofs were posted, and to project managers/designers when client feedback was received
- provide quick access to job trafficking at all stages – project start, asset acquisition, proofs posted, revisions, client approval, project submission to production, final delivery/completion and invoicing.
- provide a central office calendar for keeping track of meetings, deadlines, activities, holidays, etc.
The extranet met all of the growing agencies needs from the time it was launched in February 2006 until the agency shut down in February 2010. As it developed and needs evolved, additions and modifications were made on the fly, and became impossible to carry out day-to-day operations without the use of the Extranet.
